What are the Applications of Tyvek Paper?

Tyvek Paper is a composite wrapping material that is used as a desiccant. It is also used as a housewrap, a synthetic material used to protect buildings during construction. The material is difficult to tear, but can easily be cut with scissors or a knife. Here are the top applications of T40 paper:

1.       Construction and Engineering

Large sheets of Tyvek paper are frequently used as "housewrap," to provide an air barrier between the outer cladding of a structure and the frame, insulation, etc. The paper allows water vapor to pass yet restricting air infiltration. The paper was also used to cover and protect the Reaction Control System (RCS) thruster ports from water and debris during the latter years of the Space Shuttle program.

2.       Government Use

Tyvek paper is often used by the United States Postal Service for some of its Priority Mail and Express Mail envelopes. New Zealand used it for its driver's licenses from 1986 to 1999. Costa Rica, the Isle of Man, and Haiti have made banknotes from it.

3.       Medicinal Use

Tyvek is used for laboratory and medical packaging as the material can withstand conditions such as gamma irradiation or ethylene oxide gas. NSW Police in Australia use Tyvek overalls to keep the integrity of alleged criminals' bodies at a crime scene, until they have had a chance to do body swabs.

4.       Fashion and Personal Use

Tyvek paper is often used in garment and other textile labeling due to its high durability and washability. Wristbands made from Tyvek paper are used at festivals, conventions, and events where there are security and admission concerns. Rock band Devo is known for wearing large, two-piece Tyvek suits with black elastic belts and 3-D glasses.

5.       Other Applications

Tyvek paper is used in archery to construct waterproof targets replacing normal paper. FedEx also uses the paper for some of its document envelopes. Race bibs or race numbers are often produced on Tyvek paper, so they are less likely to rip during competition.

Agile Nobel has developed a Tyvek equivalent paper, T40 paper, after years of effort. The company manufactured T40 paper in 3 types: water resistance type (WPT), strong seal type (SST), integrated type (IT). In addition to T40 paper, the organization also offers humidity indicator cards, lithium hydroxide, lithium chloride, lithium bromide, oxygen absorber, saffron, smecton clay, calcium propionate, soda lime absorbents, temperature data loggers, and more.
